Over the weekend, the Obama administration finally took on Fox News. It's risky to take on a wealthy media company, but attention must be focused on their lack of journalistic integrity and simply the voice of the Republican opposition party. It is important that true news organizations seek the truth about our government and policy makers, as did Bob Woodward during the Nixon days. Walter Cronkite, the most trusted news man in American, stated after he left CBS that to be a good journalist, you must lean to the left in ideology to seek the truth. What he meant was you never take on face value what government and politicians say, you dig and research for the truth, and then present it to the people to decide.
When a media company calls themselves a News organization and it is obvious that their material is coming from the talking points of a single political party and their other resources are single focused agenda organization of the same ideology, and they do not dig and research for the truth behind the information, then they are not a News organization but an advocate for a single political, religious and social agenda and should not be labeled with the word News. They should change their name to "Fox Conservative Report" or "The Fox Advocate." I know MSNBC leans to the progressive mind set, but if you follow them at all, you will see they do a lot of research in the stories they present, supported with video and documentation. If they error, they are the first to correct a statement. They try to be honest and fair, not necessarily "balanced" in that it is impossible to do that when the counter argument is without fact and supporting data. They invite counter argument to appear on their shows and have very conservative guests present the counter argument. In support of MSNBC again, I see them many times taking on the Obama administration when they find discrepancies in policy and statements and action and they see things contrary in a progressive mind set, as well as going after the Democrats in Congress. They fully admit they are biased to the progressive side of politics, they are honest about their position. Yes they favor a progressive ideology of social justice for gay civil rights, minority civil rights, support for the poor and disenfranchised, the separation of church and state, which are the things the current American Conservative movement is opposed to.
There is one principle in American business on how to create loyal customers is to appeal to the right wing mentality, if your business can in anyway associate itself with that ideology. Rupert Murdock has done that very well with his papers and Fox Cable Channel.
I also find that those who follow this right wing ideology have an inherent predisposition to not question their leadership and those who speak on behalf of their organization. I see this similar pattern with religious affiliation and obedience to that authority without question. That is why there is such a strong religious element in the right wing agenda and ideology in America.
I support Fox's right to broadcast what they want, it is their first amendment right. But they should also take responsibility for what they say and do, should there be negative outcome as the result. They should be honest and admit they are an advocate for the right wing political movement and call themselves a conservative political opinion channel, not a News channel. At lease MSNBC admits they are left leaning.
Obviously those who support the right wing ideology will totally disagree with my argument.
