Global Warming, not this year?

It looks like not much will be accomplished at the climate summit in Copenhagen, Denmark this year. America does not want to commit to anything until Congress passes the pending Cap 'n Trade bill.

America's other objection was China and India's exemption from CO2 and other harmful emissions. But China seems to be changing it's position and more willing to see some caps placed on them. Mostly this is self serving as the air there is so polluted that it is a health issue now. That is why they are unhappy about the Chinese company wanting to buy the Hummer badge from GM. They want to see more hybrid and all electric automobiles developed and sold there. I'm not sure were India stands, but they too need to address their harmful emissions as their population chokes on their air.

Hopefully they will get more done at this meeting and we can be prepared to complete a treaty next year.

Every nation must do its part to slow global warming and convert to non-fossil fuel energy for electricity and transportation. Alternative energy technologies are rapidly being developed, but they just need capital to deploy them for any measurable impact. Oil companies have given lip service about changing to "energy" companies and embracing these new technologies, but I have not seen them market any of these new developments, just talk about them.

On my recent vacation trip across America, I was driving through I-80 in Wyoming where there is a large wind turbine farm. I have seen them in California also. I think there are other areas that have constant wind that would be ideal for wind turbines. Denmark and Germany has a program that encourages farmers and ranchers to install wind turbines to sell the power back to the grid. Legislation is needed here to do the same thing here. There is no reason we could not generate upward of 30% or more of our total energy production through wind energy.

Come on America, lets get with it and join in alternative energy deployment and usage.

I acknowledge that there are natural factors involved in climate change; sun spots, volcanism, cosmic events, El NiƱo, earths wobble, etc., but these are things humans can not change, but add to that whatever level human's contribute to the problem, then that just might be enough to tip the climate threat into catastrophic results. To me it is better to be safe and reduce the effect humans have on climate in hopes of not crossing that critical point of no return.

My thoughts... What's yours?
