The recent Tea Party movement, which is primarily a theocratic-libertarian-anarchy movement, has brought the worst of our society to the surface. The banners are intimating or directly state violence toward those who they oppose is frightening. Even more disturbing is that all reasoned thought in the Republican Party has been lost to this fringe group and their overt support of this movement. The conservative demonstrators gathered at the capitol protesting the health care reform bill called several African-American members of congress "Nigger," one even spate on a black member of the house of representatives. They shouted homophobic chants at Congressman Barney Frank, an openly gay member. Signs showed guns and statements of threats if the bill is passed. It is one thing to hold signs asking the members to vote no or statements to that effect, but to threaten violence if they don't comply with your wishes is down right terrorizing.
I fear that this movement toward violence is being fueled by TV and radio personalities like Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck who can easily incite one or more deranged souls to assassinate progressive legislators and we would be reduced to a banana republic. Rush proclaimed that every member of congress that voted yes to the health care reform bill "...must be Taken Out." I presume he meant by voting them out???
Now that the conservatives have achieved their goal of "Starve the Beast," what now? As stated in the article below, they have no plan. The country will be left in ruin in their quest to abolish the federal government.
Glenn Beck stated it rather clearly the other night when he proclaimed that America is not a democracy, but a republic. By this he means that the states are sovereign to all others and to neuter the federal system to the bare minimum. He fails to understand that our system is founded on a democratically elected representative republic of united states for the sake of commerce, security and trade, as well as the welfare of the people of all the states. As stated in the preamble of the declaration of independence...to form a more perfect union... ...the pursuit of life, liberty and happiness...
One Republican member of the house suggested that congress should repeal all laws and start over in the formation of our country. They want to throw the last 234 years out the window and remake American as they want it; I would presume a single party system of their conservative ideology.
How much longer can they obstruct meaningful legislation that is trying to save the country and start to intelligently engaging in bi-partisan governance?
