As most of you know, I am very critical of FOX news for its non-news environment and inciting anger and hostility in the populace by their broadcast talent, especially Glenn Beck. There are many who would like to silence FOX, my immediate reaction would be Hell Yes! But I would be violating my strong support of free speech. The only way free speech can truly be free speech is when you tolerate speech that you find abhorrent. However, there are limitations when it comes to inciting violence against others, and I feel FOX, especially Glenn Beck has crossed that line.
With that said, I do feel that true journalists, if there are some still around, should push back the rhetoric and expose FOX as not a legitimate news organization, but a political public relations arm of the conservative caucus of the Republican Party. It is solely and totally a political media agent for them. Let them spew their hate, but discredit them as a news organization and correct the misinformation and out right lies they proclaim.
If the mainstream press discredits them, they loose a seat in the White House press corp, and then we will have balance and their speech will be viewed in the appropriate light of political hype, not news.
I do feel that Glenn Beck is a danger to our democracy. He outright states he does not believe in democracy, but only in the principles of a Representative Republic. He is not clear how these representatives are chosen. But given his hate for democracy, I would assume that they would be appointed by the party, much the same as in China's communist party. However, in Glenn's world they would have to be his form of Christian to be allowed to hold office. He hates secularism in any form. If he did not have such a large following of similar thinking people, he would not be worth worrying about. But since he does and can rally tens of thousand to Washington for a gathering, shows the power he has. But in the end, he does have the right to spew his hate and discontent.
I just hope America can withstand his and his Tea Party assault on our country.
