Bring On Less Democracy
Click on the link above to read this informative article about how our presidential selection process worked before 1831. It's something I did not learn in school.
I agree with his premiss that we need a better selection process that ties the presidential candidate to the political party they are a member of and also create accountability of the party for the action of both it's members in Congress and their president, if the president is of their party.
We also need to push for more political parties in Congress so that no one party has absolute control and must work with members of other parties to develop a coalition to get bills passed. Remove the filibuster from the rules of the Senate. Lets say you have 6 political parties in the Senate, so no one party has enough votes to pass or block any legislation. It would require several of the different political parties to join in force to obtain the needed 51 votes for a bill. With the filibuster removed, there would be no need to get 60 votes just to approve a billing coming to the floor to vote on.
For example: The Republican party should be broken into several parties, the Tea Party, The Capitalist Party, The Christian Republicans, The Jewish Republicans and so on. The Democrats should be broken into The Progressive Party, The Socialist Party, The Christian Democrats, The Jewish Democrats, The Eco Party, The Labor Party and so on.
With this many groups, there would really need to be cooperation, even to elect the Speaker of The House, since no one party would have enough seats to have automatic control.
Also by eliminating money out of the process and lobbying, then we could return to a self governed country by the real PEOPLE.
