Religion in politics is getting tiresome

Of all places, the LDS church owned Deseret Morning News Opinion section had an article about the intrusion of religion into the public square. It is a good article to read.

As religions and their members push more into public affairs, the push back can be more negativity toward religion than the gains. There is a fear by many of faith that there is an assault on their religion. Actually it is not an assault on their religion, but their activist movement to Christianize the nation, thereby it is an assault on all those who do not share the same faith or those, like me, of no faith.

So those of faith, practice your faith in YOUR personal life, in your homes, temples, wards, churches, synagogues, Mosques, cars, RVs, silently and privately at your place of work. Just leave the public space, public for all to enjoy and laws secular to protect all citizens! PLEASE !

Do we really need "In God We Trust" mounted in every classroom? Do we need the "Ten Commandments" mounted in every court room? Do we need ...,"Under God,..." in our pledge? Do we need "In God We Trust" on our currency? Do we need a prayer before public meetings, school graduation, sporting events, neighborhood parties? Do we need to end every public speech, "God Bless America?" Do we need the "Ten Commandments" mounted in our public parks or city hall? Wouldn't a shield symbolize an officers death along the side of a road in the public right-of-way be more appropriate than a Christian cross? Why push for laws requiring everyone to say "Merry Christmas" instead of "Happy Holidays" in public venues? Why can't the entire month of December be called "Winter Fest" to include all faiths and their winter celebrations?
