A recent story in the Salt Lake Tribune again demonstrates how draconian and backwards Utah and specifically Utah County is. There is a well known hot spring up Diamond Fork canyon from Spanish Fork off of US6. They have been skinny dipping pools for as long as I can remember which is legal in the National Forest. However, Utah State and Utah County have very strict public nudity laws and a provision in the National Forest regulations allows local laws to dominate over this federal regulation. One of the few times that is allowed.
So the story goes that eight forest fire firefighters while camping were enjoying a soak after sunset in the buff on a frigid October night. County Sheriffs deputies were hiding near by as one of them in casual UTE cloths approached and asked if they had any marijuana. They replied NO and the rest of the deputies descended upon them with flashlights. What horrible crime must these firefighters be committing; sitting naked in the warm water with a bottle of wine and a few candles around the edge for light? Were they going to have SEX, oh no, not that sin - Sex. Or were they just talking and enjoying the evening?

Utah lighten up. What’s with this paranoia about the nude body and the natural act of sex? By the large number of kids in Mormonville, I would assume they enjoy sex, but not in the nude, I guess. So why can’t they allow others to enjoy it also, even in a warm spring up a canyon in a National Forest? These people were adults and I don’t think the deer and antelope called to complain. If some one was passing by, just don’t look at them if it upsets you, just walk on by. Let others live their lives and give them space. You don’t own it all nor should you control it all.
Both eastern and western Europe just shakes their heads at us in how childish we are with this subject. About the only ones similar to us is the Islamic nations and China. Not what I would call shining examples of freedom.

PS: If you haven't skinny dipped once in your life, you haven't lived.
