From Glenn Beck to the Texas School Book review board, to some conservative parents in the Alpine School District in Utah County, are demanding that we stop using the term democracy when defining our country. They want only to reference it as a republic, representative if you must, but utmost a republic, not a democracy. Now for over two centuries we have been declared the promoters of democracy around the world, that being that the PEOPLE must be part of the process of governance through voting for their elected representatives and leaders. In the beginning of our country the Republicans were part of the Democrats in a party called the Democratic-Republicans that stood for a democratic republic. To now try to eliminate the words democracy and Democrat from our education system and other documents is lunacy. It is a move to manipulate the process to a single ideology of their form of conservatism. It is a very dangerous president to start to eliminate terms or words that do not reflect your particular ideology. In the Texas case, they are also wanting to remove any reference of Thomas Jefferson's argument that the US should be a secular country with a separation of church and state. An element that is core to our constitution. They want to eliminate any reference to the ACLU but want more positive reference to the Eagle Forum who are anti bill of rights and Ronald Reagan who raised the deficit by 184% and hates government? They want to ignore history and write whatever fiction they want into the school textbooks?
Glenn Beck has put forth the idea that democracy is the process of becoming socialists. Wait, if the people vote for elected representatives that pass legislative bills that the PEOPLE want, that is a form of socialism? Things like social security and medicare, and FEMA, and flood insurance, and medicaid, and unemployment insurance, and ... All of this is bad and un-American. He demands that our country is not a majority rule form of representation. So what is it, the right wing are the only ones that can rule? As indicated by the health care reform bill, the conservatives would not accept majority rule and demanded that the minority rule. Who cares about the last election, it is they who knows best how to govern, even if they hate government and governance.
To me the neo-coservatives are the greatest threat to our national survivability. It is they who has spent us into oblivion with their philosophy of Starve the Beast. It is they who will not participate in the governance of our country and demand that all things must be their way or no way. It is they who use coded words of threats and violence against the opposition party. It is they who are fueling the flames of unrest in the public.
It is they who are inciting these Christian militias to try to instigate civil war. It has become a very dangerous time in our country. The fear mongering of the far right wing and support by mainstream republicans is very unsettling. We haven't seen left-wing militias since the Patty Hurst kidnapping and the Symbionese Liberation Army of the 1970's. But there are hundreds of small to large right-wing libertarian militias that nearly all profess to be Christian Crusaders, as stated by the Southern Poverty Law Center and the National Security Agency, who tracks these groups. Of course we all know about the KKK and their Christian theology and racist hatred and bigotry. Some of the others are the Skin Heads, Gods Army, Christ's Crusaders, and more. A very few militias are not so racist focused, but they are homophobic and have a strong hatred for government at any level. In actuality they are anarchists.
This merging of Christianity and Libertarian Anarchy within the Republican party and the subset The Tea Party is alarming. If the current right-wing movement continues at the rate that we have seen this past year, by 2012 we will be in full civil war. The guns and ammo are flying of the shelves. Even anti-gun citizens are thinking twice, that they may need to arm themselves for this pending civil war. If it does happen, it will be a bigger blood bath than the horror of the civil war of 1863. It will not be fought by two apposing organized armies, but by urban and rural guerrilla snipers of the neo-con right-wingers shooting at all those who they feel oppose them, armed or unarmed, and the US military, who represents the government they hate. How the national guard fits into this will be unclear, as many guardsmen/women are supporters of the neo-conservatives and may be saboteurs within their own ranks. Also some neo-conservative governors may try to order their troops to battle against the US Army, mainly in the southeast in support of their revolution.
I hope I am wrong in my prognosis, but I am a realist who understands history and that history does repeat itself. This just may be a repeat. I hope not.
