Since the start of the progressive era of FDR's "New Deal" and President Lindon Johnson's "Great Society" movements, the conservatives decided to step up their absolute takeover of the governance of America and eliminate any and all progressive legislation by creating an organization called ALEC – "American Legislative Exchange Council." It was created by very conservative and more leaning libertarian ideology governors, legislators and members of Congress. Its purpose is to provide template written legislation to local, state and federal elected conservatives to coordinate this effort to repeal all of the Great Society and New Deal progressive policies. The goal is to return the USA back to the 19th Century in which there are no regulations upon business, banking or finance. Their ideal is that whatever you can accumulate in wealth is yours to keep. You will only share it when and how you want to, not through any government program to redistribute wealth and build a middle-class. The wealthy are the inheritors of the nation. Everyone must be self reliant and not depended on anyone else, especially them or government. It is much more than just "smaller government."
What most current conservative voters don't realize, because their idols don't tell them the truth of what the movement is actually about, is that the ultimate goal is to reduce government to just the legislative, administrative and judicial branches. Under the administrative branch, it would be reduced to the original departments or cabinet posts. There would be of course the President and then the cabinet of: Dept. of Treasury, Dept. of State, Dept of Defense (war) and Dept of Justice (Attorney General). All other government functions would be eliminated.
Should there be a need for a service provided by government, such as National Parks or Recreation Areas, these would be provided by private companies like Disney or Six Flags or Busch Entertainment. Prisons would be provided by private companies as well. As you may have heard, they want to change the constitution so that federal and supreme court judges are not given life appointments but have term limits and can be removed by a political body of Congress by a simple vote if they don't like how a judge ruled on a particular case. Scary.. The courts are already highly politicized, we don't need the majority of the Senate to remove a judge because they don't like the outcome of an issue.
This group's ideal is that taxes are only for the workers who use government. The wealthy and corporations are the ones who provide the jobs and do not need any services by government, so they should not pay any taxes whatsoever. So the next order of business would be to eliminate all taxes or fees charged to the wealthy and corporations. The working class and main street businesses (these are the ones we associate with the term small business) will have to pay taxes to pay for the limited federal government that is left. In real terms, the working class become subservient to the wealthy in order to survive.
I don't know why it is acceptable to the American people that their elected representative in Congress have pledged allegiance to an individual who runs a private lobbying organization. This being Grover Norquist - American lobbyist, conservative activist, and founder and president of Americans for Tax Reform. He is best known as the promoter of the "Taxpayer Protection Pledge"—signed by 95% of all Republican Congressmen and all but one of the 2012 Republican presidential candidates—whereby the signer promises to never, under any circumstances, support an increase in taxes.
So you Republicans, why do you support your party's elected officials who has sworn an oath to Norquist and not the country?
For those who claim to be Republican and Conservative, are you aware that with the gap between the very wealthly and the rest of us widens, the probability of you realizing the classic Capitalist American Dream of potentially earning enough money to invest in sums large enough so that you can live on the dividends and be independently wealthy or to start your own business that will earn you millions personally is greatly diminishing.
The reality is that it becomes harder to save enough capital to invest to the required level so you can live on it as it rises and falls in value or to start a business of any significance to earn enough to be wealthy yourself. Also part of the reason is that there is a smaller consumer market that can afford to purchase your goods or services since their wages remain flat or has decline as the wealthy have gathered more of the nations wealth. Also credit has become near impossible to obtain to start a business. Every Republican administration since the "Small Business Administration of the Dept of Commerce" was created has been attempting to eliminate it and when that didn't work, they have reduced the funding to guarantee the SBA loans you get from the bank. Most of the large national banks have stopped offering SBA loans and your small local bank doesn't have access to the "Discount Window" money from the Fed to make such loans anymore. If you even qualify for a bank loan for a start up business, you will pay much higher interest on that money since it is not a government secured loan.
Of course education will only be available to those who can afford it. Free public schools will be eliminated and only private schools will be available for a price. We will have a huge working class that is illiterate and unskilled due to lack of education. Of course America will now be the low wage country for multinational corporations to bring the jobs back to this country. That is exactly what multinational corporations want to do. It is the process of constantly creating emerging markets by shifting the low wage value from one country to the next. Otherwise they reach a point of market saturation, limited growth and thus stagnant profit margins.
So why do so many stead fast middle-class Republicans continue to support the party that is hell bent on destroying the middle-class for corporate greed? The only answer I can come up with is ignorance. The have been fed the story that government is bad and evil and has never created a job (only millions of them through it purchasing of goods and services from the private sector) and that corporations are good and benevolent and the only ones to create jobs, if they didn't have to pay any taxes or be regulated (however since the Bush tax cuts and them sitting on over 2 trillion dollars in cash, they have reduced jobs, not created more). Thus if you support their ideology, you too will become very rich because you will keep ALL your money and never have to share it for anything (but you will not have social security to live on, nor medicare to help you with illness, or clean water and so on).
Also why support a party that yells very loud that they are the party of Freedom. But whose freedom? They want to control a woman's body, i.e. her reproductive organs, contraception access and they even would like to reverse their right to vote. They want to control what you read or view in such things as books, magazines, newspapers, DVDs, CDs, on the Internet, on cable/satellite, paintings, photographs, video, movies, speech, and so on. They want to modify our First Amendment to eliminate the wall between church and state so they can establish that America is a Christian country and that the Christian Laws are supreme to man's laws. They want to control what substances you put in your body. They want to control what you say and how you say it. They want to eliminate the right to assemble peacefully. The are not for equal rights and the equal application of the law to all citizens, i.e. civil rights of minorities, LGBT marriages and serving in the military.
The only freedom they support is that of large businesses and the very wealthy to do as they wish with no oversight whatsoever. Products that kill, no problem, swindle you out of your savings, no problem, buyer beware. Lost your home and job, no problem, live on the street, but not on my street. Need help, beg the church or other charity for help, don't bother me and please don't ask them to give up any $$$ to help you out of a horrible time in life. Please don't make them be compassionate, if they don't want to by taking money from them through taxes and giving it to those who lost their jobs because they just moved your factory to China. They don't care if you suffer or die, it's all about self sufficiency and if you can't do that, then it's not their problem. Leave them alone... That is the freedom the Conservatives believe in. But that is so contrary to the gospels that they say they live by, those of Jesus, whose main movement was love, charity, and compassion. He is the one who went after the banks (money changers) at that time, remember the anger he had at the money changers in the temple? Don't you think he would be just as angry at today's bankers? Get a clue...
There are so many contradictions in the Republican and Conservative movements, I don't know how they can look at themselves in a mirror. They hold up the Cross of Jesus and yell that only they have the values and morals of the Bible and only they can govern this divine country. What! The values of greed and selfishness?
I just don't get it...
